Hi everyone. It has been quite some time since I have posted (over 2 months). Now that it is almost 2012 I thought it was time to revisit the goals I set for 2011 and see how I did.
Goals for 2011/progress:
- Organize/De-clutter. I have managed to clean out old toys before new ones come into this house, but there is still a crap load of toys everywhere! Now that Christmas has come again my house is a disaster. I have gone through my own clothes every few months and donated bags full. I have stuck to my policy to getting rid of an item of clothing for every new piece purchased. I am pretty sure I have ended 2011 with less clothing than 2012. I definitely could do better and I may keep this goal for next year.
- Feed the kids better at restaurants. This has been very successful for Joey. He will always chose egg and cheese sandwiches over French fries and chicken nuggets. He also picks carrot sticks and apple sauce over French fries (he is so my kid). Andy, on the other hand, loves getting macaroni and cheese and dipping his fries in it. They eat very well at home, so I let it go when we are out.
- Eat less processed food. I have done great with this goal! I have replaced my morning Fiber One bar for a banana and natural peanut butter (or cashew butter). I had a bar addiction (Fiber One, protein, etc.) and have officially kicked it. I grab an orange, apple or some nuts and I know that is much better for me. My diet has been pretty healthy for a while, but it can always be improved.
- Use my gift certificates. I won a free month at a local gym where they offer all sorts of classes. and a free month of karate lessons (with uniform) in September 2010. I used both!! I hated the gym and never went back after my month was over. Karate (Tae Kwon Do) has been a completely different story. I have been going since January and love it! I am now a green belt. Yes people, uncoordinated me is now an intermediate belt! Joey joined me in April and is now an orange belt. I am working hard to stay one belt ahead of him. In November Joey and I even competed in our first tournament and won some trophies!
- Go to more movies. Not so great. I did take the kids to see Hop and Cars. I guess that counts.
- Enjoy running. I ran more this year than ever, completing two half marathons and I still love running! I have really listened to my body and slowed down when needed. Unfortunately I have pulled my left hamstring muscle and am in a slow down period now.
- Write a research paper. No paper, but lots of work accomplished. I met with my co-worker every week this summer to work on our research. Considering we got denied funding for our research I think we did amazing. Hopefully soon we will have not one, but two papers!
- Video tape my boys more. Steve and I got smart phones this September and I have been taping like crazy. My Facebook friends can attest to that.
- Go on a date with my husband (no kids). Success. Between my mom and a few parent’s night out through Joey’s daycare and a friend’s daycare we have managed to get out alone a few times!
- Spend money on things I want/need. I still spend too much, but l really have tried to stick to this goal. I love a bargain, but try to only purchase if I have a use and the quality is good. The savings account has gone up this year so we aren’t doing too bad.
Goals for my boys:
- Joey: Stop wearing Pull-ups at night. SUCCESS! Joey has been potty-trained since right before he turned 3. It took us longer to get him out of nighttime Pull-ups because he never woke up from peeing himself. Right before he turned 4 we started big boy underwear day and night and have not looked back. Way to go Joe!
- Andy: To become potty-trained. Total fail! Andy turns 3 at the end of February and we plan on doing what we did with Joey, quitting Pull-ups cold turkey and putting him in underwear. Joey was trained in a day. I have a feeling Andy will take much longer. I’ll keep you posted.
- Steve: Get back to watching what he is eating so he can get his blood work rechecked. The last month of the year Steve started eating primal (no processed food, grains, sugars, etc.). We both did this. That has been a step in the right direction. He has taken a break due to the holiday and although I don’t think he will go back to fully primal he plans to go back to eating healthy.
